Dearest reader,

Welcome to my guide to all things Tamrielic. From all sorts of food to extinct races, personal hygiene to festivals, there’s a little something for anyone searching to expand their world building experience in the world of The Elder Scrolls. Taken from prompts submitted through Tumblr (tastesoftamriel.tumblr.com), this is a comprehensive ‘best of’ compendium of my answers to your questions, collected since the blog’s inception in 2017.

As a social anthropologist, I have woven together elements of fantasy and global historical and cultural reality to form a unique yet believable backdrop to The Elder Scrolls. An aim for Tastes of Tamriel is to inspire and educate, and I believe that by blending together the cultures of the world we live in with the Tamriel we all adore, these goals have been reached. From my Southeast Asian roots to my Scandinavian family, the real world is brimming with inspiration that colours my world building process. It is up to the reader’s discerning eye and curiosity to find out what lies in the boundaries of reality, but the old adage rings true- real life can be far stranger than fiction.

Within these pages, you’ll find hours of entertainment and inspiration in the form of original Elder Scrolls headcanons and lore. I have meticulously collected, edited, and updated every answer, and I hope that it brings you a little joy. I recommend using this compendium as an accompaniment to my recipe book, Talviel’s Kitchen, which you can download for free at https://talvielskitchen.itch.io/talviels-kitchen-an-elder-scrolls-recipe-book.

Stay safe, eat well, be kind.
